The bell rang at 12:30pm last Saturday and the golfers were eager to tackle the 18-hole medal-play El Dorado sponsored tournament.
Mohanlall ‘Santo’ Dinanauth, one time Guyana Open champion, took the honours from Archbishop Philbert ‘His Holiness’ London, current Vice President of the Lusignan Golf Club, beating him in the ‘back-nine’.
At end of the game, by net stroke play, Dinanauth and London were tied on 69. But the back-nine count back gave ‘Santo’, one time coach of ‘His Holiness’, the edge. Santo, grossed 38 but his Back-nine handicap of 2 meant he netted 36, while on the other hand, Archbishop London grossed 52, but his handicap of 14 meant he netted 38, forcing him to be in second place.
Dinanauth felt the encouragement he has been getting to play the game in recent times has re-fired his performance. On his part, Archbishop London expressed his passion to continue improving his play so that it would be much better in future tournaments.
The winner of the Best Gross trophy was ‘Santo’ with gross 73, while Nearest to the Pin prize was won by Bhowlaram Deo.
At end of play, El Dorado Brand Manager Larry Wills in his brief remarks at the prize giving ceremony, again expressed his organization’s delight to be part of the sponsorship of the Golf Tournaments at Lusignan, and told the Club that they could look forward to continued sponsorship by El Dorado.
He noted that this was the third successive year that El Dorado sponsored this tournament, while it has been involved in sponsoring other tournaments before. Mr. Wills indicated that it was refreshing seeing the enthusiasm of the golfers.
