M-70 magazine with 20 rounds missing from police patrol

While the police in Georgetown are boasting about finding thousands of spent high calibre ammunition in Albouystown, their counterparts on the East Coast of Demerara are desperately trying to recover an M-70 magazine with 20 live rounds which went missing on Monday night at Mahaica.
Kaieteur News understands that the rank who had responsibility for the magazine with the rounds has been placed under close arrest.
As usual the police are tightlipped about the incident but it is expected that they will issue a statement after this newspaper report.
According to information reaching this newspaper, the rank was part of a patrol unit which had responded to reports of a Mahaica resident indiscriminately discharging his firearm on Monday.
The ranks subsequently went to a shop in the community where they reportedly imbibed.
It is believed that the rank in question took out the magazine from his M-70 rifle and put it down but forgot to pick it up when he and his colleagues left the shop.
It was only after they returned to their base that they realized that the magazine was missing. A quick check back at the shop failed to locate the magazine.
Reliable sources are reporting that the rank has told his superiors that the magazine with the rounds fell out of the weapon while they were in transit.
