Despite the inclement weather which brought rain and thunderstorms that pounded Costal
Guyana on Sunday. The organizers of the Rising Sun Turf Club/Inshan Bacchus Grand one day horserace meet was able to pull off an incident free event with a bang even in the wet and muddy conditions.
Only one race in the planned eight raced even was cancelled, the H and Lower even, due to time constraints as the programme got on underway after 14:00 when the rain subsided.
In the interim, champion horse Treacle of the Dookie Stable and trained by Fazal Habibulla with Jockey Rad Drepaul in the stirrups, was its usual self as it came through down the homestretch with blistering speed to take the feature D1 and lower event compliments of Banks DIH Limited and Inshan Bacchus Trucking Service.
The five horses, Jack Is My Style, The Message, Afracanist, Treacle and Swing Easy were out of the starting gate in an even break in the 1400M event. However as the race got deeper the animals spread out across the track, picking up speed. Jack is My Style led for most of the way being challenged by the others. As they hit the straight it was Treacle with its usual burst of speed that came through to win convincingly in the end and take the $1M purse. Jack Is My Style held on for second ahead of the fast finishing Swing Easy with The Message Fourth.
The Guyana and West Indies Bred 1400M event saw Unsettled of the Inshan Bacchus Stable with Junior Sookhan in the saddles settling an ongoing duel with its opponents.
Using all its resolve, the racehorse ran from behind and nosed ahead of Settling Jet of the Jumbo Jet Stable to win the $600,000 and trophy up for the taking. Shooting Star and Today is My Day occupied the other spots.
Princess Alisha ridden by Colin Ross, started things rolling for the Jumbo Jet stable as it led from start to finish to win the F1 and lower 1400M event and the $500,000 from stable mate Rosetta with War Craft and Mission King rounding out the money.
It was a big surprise in the G3 and lower 1000M event as Weekend Surprise with Paul Delph riding for the Jumbo Jet/Chattergoon stable, defeated all and sundry to take the $400,000 and trophy from stable mates Release The Beast and Happy Choice with Battle Hymn fourth.
Strom Bird of the Inshan Bacchus stable with Sookhan on its back, stormed to the front to inflict a gate to pole whipping on its opponents in one of the more convincing victories in the 600M event for Guyana and West Indies bred two years old horses that were racing for the first time.
The animals showed no unusual traits in their first competitive race, with an even break as Storm Bird galloping away with ease to take the $300,000 and trophy ahead of Its My Choice, Settling Star and Goldikova.
I Want Revenge ridden by Ross was in a class by itself as the Jumbo Jet stable scored their third victory with a win in the I1 event over a 1000M, beating De Gump, Famous Pride and Quincy. The win was worth $250,000.
The J and lower event was won by Affinity from Famous Pride.
The champion jockey award was taken by Colin Ross with the Jumbo Jet stable being awarded the top stable on show. New trainer Raj Sewsankar of the Jumbo Jet outfit was the most successful trainer. They received rewards compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers.
Organisers Inshan Bacchus and Fazal Habubulla were pleased with how things went despite the inclement weather and commended all for their assistance in making the day’s activity an incident free and successful occasion.
The police were again highly complimented for doing an excellent job.
