The Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic Committee on Sunday held its workshop to address a host of subjects ahead of the annual Championships that is slated for August 16-17 at McKenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden.
The workshop has become a feature of the organisers of the mega track and field meet, aimed at bringing officials up to date with international practices in athletics; the workshop was the fourth the committee has held since the 2010 commencement of the meet.
The workshop, which was held at the Linden Technical Institute addressed subjects such as the philosophy of officiating and the qualities of good competition officials; senior official, Cornell Rose instructed the 40 officials invited on that subject.
Rose also taught on ‘Time Keeping’ and ‘Judging Track and Field Events’ along with Technical Director of the Boyce/Jefford Classic, Mark Scott. Scott dealt with the subjects of ‘Duties of the Call Room’ and ‘Starts and Duties of the Referees’.
Mayfield Taylor-Trim handled the topic: ‘Judging Field Events’, specifically dealing with those issues related to long, triple and high jump. Chairman of the Boyce/Jefford Committee, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Colin Boyce officially opened the programme.
The fifth anniversary of the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic will feature athletes from five countries competing against Guyana’s best for club and individual supremacy. The meet is set to be officially launched at a date to be announced next week.
