Oronde Dainty and Cristy Campbell won the Men’s and Women’s Novice titles respectively at the 2014 Guyana
Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Lawn Tennis Open.
Dainty defeated Jamal Goodluck in a strategic come from behind game in a 7-5 classic semis to set up an entertaining final with Charles Adams.
In the final, Adams had an early lead of 4-1 before Dainty fought valiantly with aggressive shots to clinch the title 6-4.
In the first round, Campbell made light work of Pamela Hope 6-0 to set up a semi-final with Fiona Bushell, who got pass Tandy Primo 6-2.
Campbell won her semi-final 6-1 to challenge last year’s novice competitor, Denise Barrington in the final. Campbell took the first game then lost consecutive games to Barrington in a match that had consistent rallying from both players.
After being down, Campbell took the next five points to win the GBTI Women’s Novice title 6-2.
