Two Kopinang, North Pakaraimas farmers appeared briefly in the City magistrate’s court yesterday and were granted bail in connection with charges of attempted murder.
Delroy Pio and Jarvis Joseph were granted $350,000 bail each by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry before whom they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The charge against Pio alleged that on June 15, last, in the North Pakaraimas, he attempted to murder Dolphin Johnny by stabbing him in the right abdomen.
Joseph was accused of attempting to murder Vernacious Pio during the dispute.
Also involved in the dispute was Dolphin’s father Randolph Johnny, who was accused of assaulting Gilford Pio and causing bodily harm.
According to the Prosecution, Randolph, reacting to Pio allegedly stabbing his son, picked up a piece of wood and dealt him several blows.
Even though he pleaded guilty at their first court appearance on June 22, a not guilty plea was entered for him by the Chief Magistrate because of the circumstances surrounding the attack.
It was yesterday reported by Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bharat Mangru that Johnny has been released from the hospital.
Reports of the matter by the Prosecution are a bit sketchy.
After hearing the case, the Chief Magistrate contemplated attaching conditions to bail for the two men. She asked which police station was the closest to their village and they said Orinduik. “It does just take one day to walk to Orinduik.”
The Chief Magistrate, upon receiving such information, stated that she will attach no condition to their bail. They are scheduled to appear at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on September 1.
Bail was granted in the sum of $350,000 each.
Randolph is also scheduled to appear at that court on the said date.
