DEAR EDITOR,
I enjoyed reading US Ambassador Brent Hardt’s letter on LGBT rights in the Guyana Chronicle of June 17th. I fully endorse all his ideas on human dignity and the need to civilize the minds of those trapped in a Bronze Age ethos.
It is a difficult task to educate those folks as they are convinced that they are being righteous, though they are, in fact, preaching and practicing hate, bigotry and intolerance. The change that is needed is generational; eventually the dinosaurs and their archaic ideas will die out.
One point that stuck out in the Ambassador’s letter, though, was when he said, “no man or woman is an island — or should be sent to live on one.” And I couldn’t help but think, except in Guantanamo Bay on the Island of Cuba, eh Mr. Ambassador?
