Five persons are in custody and the Guyana Police Force can boast about taking two more illegal guns off the streets. The guns were seized in McDoom and Albouystown.
Police in a press release explained that about 17:30 hours yesterday, ranks responded to a report that two men were involved in an altercation at Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara. The men were arrested and one of them was found in possession of an unlicenced .32 Taurus revolver.
They are in custody assisting with investigations.
This newspaper was reliably informed that the police were alerted to an altercation involving members of an Agricola gang who confronted a young male resident and assaulted him.
Kaieteur News understands that residents of the community are reportedly fed-up with the actions of the gang members and are calling on the police to “clean up” the community.
In an invited comment, Divisional Commander Clifton Hicken assured that the police are making stringent efforts to ensure the safety of residents of Agricola.
He explained that the force will continue its community outreach programmes and will be targeting Agricola, since the residents there have been very receptive towards the police in recent times.
“We are going to take police in there and establish a presence. We will speak to the Commissioner about it and we hope that the people buy into our plan, because we are trying to avoid confrontations,” the Commander said.
Meanwhile, around 22:30 hours on Monday, alert ranks of a mobile police patrol conducted a search on motor car PJJ 8620 at Hogg and James Streets, Albouystown, during which an unlicenced .32 Taurus revolver with six matching rounds was found.
Two men and two women have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Police officials have indicated that they suspect that both weapons have been used in the commission of crimes, and ballistic tests will be conducted to see if there is any merit to their suspicions.
