Sentinel Security Inc. on Thursday last handed over a cheque for $100,000 to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) being sponsorship for the club’s Second Gregory Gaskin Memorial Berbice Sports Awards Scheme.
Three outstanding Berbicians including an organisation would be recognized under this initiative for their contributions to sports in 2013; the Berbice Sportsman, Sportswoman and Sports Organisation of the year.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC Foster in accepting the sponsorship at the company’s Lamaha Street, Georgetown Head Office stated that the club was pleased to be associated with Sentinel in honoring the memory of the late Gregory Gaskin who was not only involved in sports but also supported numerous sports disciplines.
Foster noted that the main aim of the scheme is to recognize and honour Berbicians who were outstanding in sports during the calendar year. The awardees would also serve as an inspiration and positive role model to youths of the Ancient County.
Berbicians and sports organisations were invited to submit nominations for the four awards and Foster stated that the club received numerous nominations. A special panel of judges would select the awardees on Tuesday, July 1.
The veteran sports administrator expressed gratitude to Executive Chairman of Sentinel Security, Mrs. Noreen Gaskin for her continued confidence in the RHTY&SC.
Operations Manager of Sentinel Mr. Cedric Brown in making the presentation expressed his company’s delight in being associated with Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation in honouring the memory of the late Gregory Gaskin.
He expressed the company’s satisfaction to the club for the way the first awards was conducted in 2013 and pledged his company’s support in the future. The date and venue for the ceremony would be announced, shortly.
