Sharona Latchman, a cosmetologist and mother of one, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft when she appeared before a Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bharat Mangru explained that on June 3, last, Latchman entered DSL Cash and Carry on Sheriff Street, Georgetown and left with a bottle each of Ciroc and Absolut Vodka stowed in her umbrella.
Mangru noted that she had not paid for the items so she was apprehended and charged for shop lifting.
Latchman requested the court’s permission to compensate the store with $20,184 cash for the stolen items.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry, in response, consulted the company’s representative who was present in court, for his consent, and Latchman was allowed to pay him for the stolen items.
At the end of the short court hearing, the Chief Magistrate indicated she will hand down her decision after she receives a probation report on the defendant.
Latchman was released on self bail and is set to return to court on July 18, 2014 for ruling.
