National U-17 cricket trials postponed

The two 50-over Under-17 cricket trials scheduled for yesterday and today at Bourda have been postponed due to the inclement weather. The National Junior Selectors were planning to use the matches to pick the Guyana team for next month’s Regional 50-over Under-17 competition in Jamaica.
Twenty-seven players were invited to trials; the Berbicians and Essequibians in the squad were set to be at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence at LBI on the East Coast of Demerara from Monday but the wet conditions have forced the organisers to put the match on hold until the weather improves.
Last year when the tournament was held in Trinidad, Guyana’s only win was against Jamaica when they finished in the penultimate position on the points table.
Travis Persaud who led Guyana then, is among the players back from the 2013 tournament while Shurfane Rutherford, Brandon Prashad, Ronaldo Renee and Kemo Paul are the other surviving players from last year’s team.
Raymond Perez, Richie Looknauth, Kelvin Sewpersaud, Ronaldo Ali-Mohammed and Kemo Paul are members of the trials squad to have graduated from last year’s Under-15 team.
Those selected in the 27-member squad are Renaldo Renee, Raymond Perez, Adrian Sukhwa, Travis Persaud, Brandon Prashad, Richie Looknauth, Akini Adams, Deon Sinclair, Ershad Alli, Malcolm Hubbard, Kelvin Sewpersaud, Ramnarine Chatura, Timothy McAlmont, Sylus Tyndall, Kevin Martinborough, Ronaldo Ali Mohammed, Kemo Paul, – Ritash Umroa, Nathan Persaud, Shurfane Rutherford, Matthew Hardyal, Malcolm Hubbard, Vivekanand Jagjit, Daniel Samaroo, Joel Seetaram, Ewart Samuels and Samuel McKenzie.
