Shot money-changer Wendell Liverpool has taken a turn for the worst, with doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation reportedly declaring him ‘brain dead.’
A relative said that they were informed of Liverpool’s condition when they went to check on him in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit yesterday.
The 44-year-old was shot in the back, buttocks and shoulder at around 22.00 hrs on Friday outside a night spot located on the West Ruimveldt Front Road, a short distance from his home.
Eyewitnesses said that Liverpool was sitting with one of his brothers when three men on bicycles rode up to the siblings. There was reportedly a brief exchange of words between Liverpool and the gunmen before they shot him.
After he collapsed on the roadway, the gunmen reportedly relieved the money-changer of a large gold chain, two gold rings encrusted with small diamonds, and a gold band. Relatives believe that the bandits took cash from their victim.
The shot man’s mother, Bernice Liverpool, believes that her son was shot because he resisted his attackers.
She said that the gunmen left her son with two gold rings, a band and a small sum of cash.
Police arrived on the scene some 15 minutes later and took Liverpool to the GPHC where he underwent surgery before being transferred to the ICU.
Police said that they are still attempting to identify the attackers.
