Police were yesterday still trying to locate the 28-year-old labourer who stabbed his 17-year-old cousin
Matthew Jack in A Field, Sophia on Friday night.
Jack, who is also a labourer, was stabbed in the chest, face and shoulder during a confrontation with his cousin, who was accused of stealing a number of items belonging to one of Jack’s sisters.
Kaieteur News was told that the wounded teen was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit yesterday evening, after spending several hours in the operating theatre. A source said that he was able to respond to relatives who visited him.
According to reports, Jack’s sister had left the cousin in her A Field, Sophia home at around 10.00 hrs on Friday. When she returned, she found that a music set, a new pair of sneakers and her cosmetics were missing.
An argument ensued after the sister accused the cousin of stealing her valuables. The sister alleged that her brother intervened and scolded the cousin, who retaliated by stabbing Jack with a knife.
A source said that the attacker remained at the scene for several minutes while relatives rushed Jack to the GPHC. The suspect’s whereabouts are now unknown.
