Guyana’s aviation sector is abuzz and the government is opening the door to any
investor seeking to boost the local sector. This is according to Brentnol Evans, Guyana’s Consul General in New York, in a feature address last Thursday at JFK Airport Sheraton Hotel.
The occasion was newcomer, Dynamic Airways, launching its operation in New York.
Evans welcomed the company on behalf of the Government of Guyana before expressing that, with the airport and runway expansion plans being undertaken at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), “the Government was prepared to welcome any investor whose interest would add to the development of the aviation sector, as well as the opportunity to provide increased uplift of produce and other products destined for international markets.”
Speaking to an audience of travel agents, Guyanese, community leaders and business persons, Captain Gerry Gouveia, Chief Executive Officer of Roraima Airways and local handler to Dynamic Airways said, “Guyana was on the threshold of becoming a strong tourism market and as such, any additional lift for passengers and tourists would be a welcomed opportunity.”
Gouveia said that Dynamic Airways was coming at a time when every possible addition to the carriers now serving Guyana would be an asset. The situation creates room for advanced and higher service standards, as well as reasonable fares offered to the Guyanese travelling public, he added.
Gouveia said that Dynamic Airways is prepared to work closely with any carrier who seeks its cooperation. He said the company was not aiming to create any shift or disruption in the industry as it pertains to Guyana, but was merely coming in at a time when Guyana needs additional airlift, and the ability of passengers to have more flexibility when it comes to making plans for their travel.
Dynamic Airways Vice President of Business Development, Tom Johnson, said that the company is determined to service Guyana as was promised to the country’s President and people.
He said that the airline is a carrier with several aircraft, and one would be stationed in Guyana on a permanent basis.
Johnson also alluded to the fact that Dynamic was an airline with its own planes, “therefore the thought of any major delays at any time would be minimal. There will be back up planes on the east coast of the US.”
He also expressed thanks to the Government for reaching out to the United Kingdom-based group, ASM, which merges airlines with destination airports and routes. In this instance ASM connected with Dynamic Airways who recognized the potential and offered to provide services to the destination.
The American Carrier which will be supported by several services to be provided by Roraima Airways in Guyana, will be offering passengers four return flights per week from Guyana to New York.
The company has said that it hopes to perform as a substitute flag-carrier for Guyana with hopes of earning that title in the long run.
Flights will depart Guyana on Fridays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 am, while the return trips will depart the JFK Airport at 9:00 am on the same days. The airline is expected to enter the Guyanese market before month end.
