Dolphin Secondary, playing one of the most determined matches of their career, turned back
Action in the Dolphin (red) and St. George’s encounter yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground.
the challenge of last year’s fourth placed team, St. George’s on penalty kicks at the Ministry of Education Ground yesterday when action in the fourth edition of the Digicel Schools Football Championship continued in Georgetown.
Over at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, it was easy sailing for St. Mary’s who hammered Campbellville Secondary 11-1, the winners scoring all the goals.
At the Ministry of Education ground it was a fierce battle between two evenly matches sides. Riding on their performance from last year, St. George’s would have been odds on favourites to win but waiting to spoil their party were underdogs, Dolphin.
After a goalless first half, pressure was surely building on St. George’s to get on the score sheets but the Dolphin side was matching them in every department. It was Dolphin who would take the lead 59 minutes on through a well placed shot from Leon Richardson.
St. George’s never bargained to be trailing Dolphin and quickly got their act together to neutralize proceedings when Travis Cotton netted five minutes later.
It was back to the goal drought as both teams failed to trouble the nets again. Penalty kicks it was that would be required to decide the winner and Dolphin prevailed 4-2 to register a huge win against St. George’s to send them packing.
At Eve Leary, St. Mary’s opened the quest on a high with hat-tricks from Andel Smith and Raphael Bollers who led their 11-1 demolition of Campbellville.
Play was concentrated for most of the game in the Campbellville half of play and for that matter, their defensive third which would have been the attacking third for St. Mary’s.
Smith sent his team on their way with the game just 9 minutes old; finding the target again in the 35th and 42nd minute. Bollers inked his name on the score sheets in the 19th, 81st and 89th minute.
Raphael Charles converted in the 17th minute, Alyne Haynes in the 60th, Sean Turney in the 65th, Lennox Cort 67th and Colin Denny in the 72nd minute.
Charles it was who netted the own goal that handed Campbellville their consolation goal in the 22nd minute.
Play in the Georgetown zone will continue today with two more matches. Christ Church will oppose South Ruimveldt at the Ministry of Education ground, while at the Eve Leary ground, St. John’s College will come up against Sophia Special School.
Both matches will kick off at 15:30hrs.
