Dear Editor,
Hundreds of Chinese nationals have started flooding into Guyana without let or hindrance while CARICOM nationals and Brazilians have often been charged with illegal entry. The Guyana and CARICOM governments must immediately demand reciprocal treatment for CARICOM and Guyanese nationals wishing to settle or visit China. The people await the response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Secondly, Chinese nationals are widely known to ignore the Laws of Guyana. They do not pay NIS for their staff or workers; they ignore the Income Tax Laws and do not pay Income taxes or VAT, and they have no respect for the Labour Laws.
The various Government agencies responsible for enforcing such Laws, including the NIS, the Revenue Authority and the Labour Department must account to the Nation why they are in default in doing their jobs. The other national media must follow up these Government Departments for answers.
Guyana and Guyanese have rapidly been turning their backs on the racist past but the Chinese influx has been bringing a new racism here. The Chinese have for centuries been despising all other races as “barbarians”and “foreign devils” and in Guyana, all other races are called “Kwayees” (i.e.Jumbies) and Black People are most contemptuously called ‘Black Jumbies” Racism with its sly or overt face is not wanted here..
Prof Accabre Nkofi’s recent explosive booklet “The Blackman spearheads struggle against New Imperialism” succinctly deals with this Chinese question and could be obtained at some gas stations and at Austin’s bookstore.
