– ‘Rambo’ still critical in N/A hospital
Even before the dust has settled in the previous prison brawl in which four high profile prisoners were brutally chopped and
burnt with acid, on Friday 23rd May, by an opposing gang, another high profile prisoner has been critically injured in the same prison.
The latest incident occurred early last Saturday morning (June 14), and has left 27-year-old Tameshwar Khemraj, called ‘Rambo’, who is presently serving a four-year sentence for robbery under arms, clinging to life in the New Amsterdam Hospital with stab wounds about his body.
Khemraj, who was also wanted for a number of misdemeanours, was reportedly attacked by two brothers, and their uncle. The brothers are on remand for a murder/robbery which occurred at Hampshire in 2013 during which a businessman was shot dead. Their uncle is serving a sentence for rape.
The attack followed an altercation Khemraj had with one of the brothers on the previous day. He was stabbed just around 06:00 hrs – when the prisoners are allowed to empty their overnight utensils.
According to reports, Khemraj has been having differences with the brothers whom he accused of implicating him in the murder/robbery. He is alleged to have punched the younger brother in the face and beat him up. The man reported the matter to his elder brother and uncle. The men then armed themselves with ‘juckers’ and pounced on Khemraj early the following morning.
Khemraj was picked up and rushed to the hospital. After the attack a search was subsequently conducted at the New Amsterdam prison where several cellular phones, cutlasses, ice-picks and several other sharp weapons were found.
