Police have launched an investigation to recover a motorcar, which was reportedly hijacked by armed bandits on Tuesday.
The vehicle, a silver/grey Spacio motorcar with licence plate PSS 5507 was hijacked after the owner, Vickram Ramrattan, was held at gunpoint by bandits around mid afternoon, in the vicinity of Hope Village, East Coast Demerara.
The 25-year-old father of one from Beehive, East coast Demerara, said that he had purchased the vehicle, less than 72 hours before it was stolen.
Ramrattan had pulled over to the side of the Public road, moments before the incident took place.
“I pull in de corner at Hope Turn fuh urine but by the time I finish, and jump in the vehicle fuh pull off, I see two men jump out from a blue Allion that pull up. They move like police.
“By the time I could pull off them done dey in de car. One of dem jump in the front seat and put de gun at me side and tell me drive.” Ramrattan said that he is lucky to be alive.
“I tried fuh start de car but like the key didn’t turning but somehow I manage to escape. When I jump out one of them hold unto me jersey but I wriggle out from he and dem pull off with the car. “
However, Ramrattan says that he could identify his attackers.
“Although it happen so fast, I know the men if I see dem. It was two guys, a red skin one and a dark skin one. They don’t look like they are older than 27,” Ramrattan said.
He explained that he purchased the vehicle from a prominent East Coast Demerara Auto dealer, just two days before the incident.
“I only made my first down payment pun it. I does drive hire car and I only tek de car two days and it get thief. All my documents and cell phone and so on been in de car.” the man lamented.
“Me aint even gat a photograph of the car but the dealers can identify It,” he added.
The stolen vehicle is said to be worth $2 million. Ramrattan has since notified the dealers. He has also lodged a report at the Cove and John Police Station and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Meanwhile, Police are also investigating a separate incident in which a black Toyota VIOS motorcar, PMM 6809 was allegedly hijacked from a Station Street, Kitty residence on Sunday last.
The owner, Sewkumar Puran, of Lot 4 Columbia, Essequibo Coast, said that the car was parked outside his niece’s residence in Kitty around 3:00 am on Sunday, when it disappeared.
Puran had recently returned from an overseas trip.
“I was on way my home having spent time with my wife and daughters in St. Martin. I asked my niece’s reputed husband, Ravi, to pick me up at the Airport because I am living on the Essequibo Coast and I wanted to drive home.
“He kept asking us if we wanted to stop for anything on our way to Georgetown but we refused. However, when we reach Station Street, we decided to step out of the vehicle to use the washroom.
“All I hear is like the car screech and pull off, then Ravi told us that someone drive away with it.”
Puran said that he made reports at nearby Police Stations.
“I made a report at Kitty and Alberttown Stations. We are awaiting word from them. We have been cooperating with the police throughout their investigations.
My car had about seven suitcases in it at the time and a lot of valuable items, thousands of US dollars in stuff that my family had sent home,” the man added.
The stolen vehicle is said to be valued at $2.9 million.
