Play in the Stag Beer sponsored East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) division-one league continued on Saturday last at the Buxton Ground with two matches.
Ann’s Grove walked away with full points, defeating Buxton Stars 3-1 whilst the other game saw BV Triumph United and Mahaica battling to a 1-1 draw to earn one point each.
Ann’s Grove, through Nikose Denny opened the scoring 32 minutes into their game against Buxton Stars, a game that was not easy for either of the teams as they defended well. Buxton however, couldn’t keep the lurking Ann’s Grove players at bay forever and cracked in the 32nd minute which allowed the opening goal.
Thereafter it was still a tight contest but it was Ann’s Grove that would have doubled the advantage 65 minutes on, this time Maxton Adams finding the back of the nets. But five minutes later, Buxton Stars were awarded a penalty which they converted through Alistair Deen to reduce the deficit by one.
Ann’s Grove put the game beyond the reach of Buxton in the final minute of regulation time when Kevon Barry scored; final score Ann’s Grove 3, Buxton Stars 1.
In the day’s curtain raiser, BV Triumph United and Mahaica battled to a 1-1 stalemate. For BV, DeShawn Garnett was the player on target, while Quincy Holder netted for Mahaica.
Meanwhile, no matches were played in the Stag Beer sponsored division-one league in the East Demerara Football Association due to the unplayable state of the Grove Playfield.
Matches in both leagues will continue this weekend.
