The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has officially written the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) informing them that they have been referred to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for disciplinary action regarding the staging of unapproved or unauthorized cricket in Guyana.
The BCB in collaboration with the Berbice Chambers of Commerce played a competition dubbed the “Independence T20 Cup”, at the Albion Community Centre ground on the 25th May, 2014. During the first week of May this competition was deemed unapproved by the GCB. The Board stated that they did not receive any application for this competition nor did they approve it.
The GCB warned that in keeping with the WICB policies, there would be penalties/sanctions if this competition went through, and, the WICB echoed the GCB’s warning. But the organisers went ahead with the competition.
Part of the letter which was signed by the GCB Executive Secretary reads; “I hereby inform you that the Berbice Cricket Board has been referred to the West Indies Cricket Board for disciplinary action regarding the staging of unapproved or unauthorized cricket in Guyana.
Your Board is fully aware of the requirements for unapproved/unauthorized cricket and you were further reminded by both the GCB and the WICB on the required procedure yet still, your Cricket Board went ahead and organised such cricket on the 25th May 2014.
In addition, your Board gave unauthorised permission to an entity, which is not a part of our cricket structure, to promote and organise unauthorised/unapproved cricket contrary to the rules and regulations of Guyana and West Indies Cricket Boards. With this ill-conceived act of insubordination, you have placed your entity and the cricketers at risk of serious penalties and sanctions.”
