resounding 8-1 victory over Linden Foundation in the Region 10 Zone of this year’s Digicel Nationwide Schools Football Competition which commenced yesterday, at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.
The champs, playing with a partly second string squad, opened their account in the 11th minute of play through a penalty kick which was taken by Shane Luckie that saw the Linden Foundation goalkeeper make the save, but the ball landed back into the path of Luckie, who after two attempts struck it past the keeper.
They stretched their advantage 14 minutes later through Nigel Caesar, who received a pass from the right side, before firing a left-foot shot past the keeper.
Five minutes later, Caesar was once again in action as he hammered a fierce shot into the back of the goal to make it 3-0.
Omar Archer then got into the act during a dominant period of possession that had up until then typified the kind of suffering Linden Foundation were enduring as he finished with aplomb to ensure that Christianburg/Wismar take a handy 4-0 lead at the break.
Three minutes after Luckie completed his brace after poking in from close range when the goalkeeper was left stranded way outside his goal area.
Linden Foundation managed to pull one back through Akeem Brisport, who lashed home after outsprinting his markers following a long ball from the back in the 58th minute.
Christianburg/Wismar oozing with confidence poured in three more goals, before full time.
Anthony Layne first netted in the 63rd minute, before Ezra Ashby added another in the 74th, while Donovan Francis put the icing on the cake with a blistering strike in the 79th to seal the win.
Play in the zone continues tomorrow with Wisburg taking on Mackenzie High at the same venue, starting at 15:30 hrs.
