For 27-year-old Andrew Goodridge, the sound of a crying baby on the other end of the telephone line yesterday was the most beautiful and exciting moment in his life.
Goodridge, who became a first time father yesterday after his wife Diandra Mentus delivered a healthy baby boy around 07:00 hrs yesterday- Father’s Day, could not stop smiling when this newspaper visited him at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) a few hours after the baby’s birth.
“When my wife called me this morning (yesterday) and said ‘Happy Father’s Day’, I was like… thanks, and then she said she delivered a boy and I froze. I didn’t know what to say,” Goodridge recalled with a huge smile on his face.
Although his son was just a couple hours old, Goodridge, a construction worker, could not stop relating how happy he was to finally get a partner to sit beside and watch a football match or to even play the exciting game at times.
“Oh boy… I can’t wait for that moment. I can’t even wait to take him home and to wake up next to him in the nights and early in the mornings. I can’t wait to hug him. When I hear I get a son, I couldn’t wait to come to the hospital, I was excited and nervous at the same time,” the Bare Root, East Coast Demerara resident related.
According to Goodridge, he will be waiting patiently to hear the magical word, “Daddy.”
Recalling how he felt when his wife first told him that she was pregnant, Goodridge said he was speechless. He said he instantly gave up his party life to spend time with his pregnant partner.
“Now that I get a son, I can’t wait to go home after work and play with him,” Goodridge said yesterday as he sat next to his baby boy and wife on the hospital bed.
