14th P&P Insurance Brokers & Consultants 11-Race NPM…
Team Coco’s Stephano Husbands recorded the biggest win of his still young career yesterday in the National Park, outsprinting veteran Robin Persaud to win the feature 35-lap schools boys and invitation race.
The activity was the 14th P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultants 11-race National Park Cycle Programme.
Thirty-four riders faced starter’s orders; many of the seasoned campaigners including Raynauth Jeffrey, Marlon Williams and Junior Niles among others were in contention.
The race got off to a blazing start with Husbands’ teammate Jeffrey bursting away from the whistle and in the process led for the first eight laps. Jeffrey’ early steam was watered down when he suffered a puncture on lap 11.
But excellent teamwork saw two of his club members waiting for him and together they worked their way back to the main pack by lap 17. Clearly, Team Coco’s have a mission to transform the sport locally.
That level of teamwork has been missing in the local sport for a long time, fans and supporters are looking forward to seeing much more of that in the future which adds more excitement and intrigue to the sport.
With four of the top six riders being Team Coco’s members, it was always going to be a tough one for the other two riders, Persaud and Williams to win. As it turned out, Husbands, appreciating that he is not an out and out sprinter made his move at the right time with about 500m to the line which made it difficult for Persaud to catch him.
In the end, Husbands won was able to keep Persaud at bay to win in One Hour 16 Minutes

25.86 Seconds. Williams had to settle for third place followed by Eastman, Jeffrey and Junior Niles.
Williams won four of the eight sprint prizes with Jeffrey taking two and one apiece for Eastman and Persaud.
At the presentation ceremony, Ms. Varsha Panday, Account Executive of P&P Insurance noted that they were again happy to be a part of the activity which would have seen many of the young riders from the initial days moving on to succeed at the higher level.
“As a responsible business entity, we are conscious of our obligations to the community and we seek to discharge that responsibility by supporting many projects and events including this one today. I wish to congratulate all the winners and urge those who did not do too well not to lose heart but to work harder and success will come your way.”
