Jun 15, 2014 Letters
Dear Editor,
On today’s date Friday 13th June, I received a letter dated May 7th 2014 captioned “Notification Of Late Filing Penalty Year of Assessment …. 2009…”It then went on to state that the penalty was $2,368.
First of all I must state that I have been religiously submitting my tax returns every year since I started working in 1977 and I am saying that I did submit my returns for the year in question.
Secondly, why is it that five years after the fact that only now am I being penalized for late filing? If my returns were not received or could not be found, why was I not notified in 2010?
I will state quite clearly sir, that I am not paying “one black cent” based on just those two points and it doesn’t matter what happens henceforth. I pay enough taxes every time I go to the supermarket. I pay taxes and the street I live in is full of potholes. I got sick last year and went to the GPHC but attention there was so slothful, I ended up at a private hospital. Is that what my taxes are for?
And why me? What about the private investors in the Berbice Bridge whose profits I understand are not taxed! So why me?
It is taking a lot of restraint for me to remain civil in this letter, so I can just say that your letter freaked me out.
Get the foregoing addressed then send me letters. Until then I repeat “me nah a pay one black cent”.
