The administrators of the Eletra Sports are pushing ahead with their mandate of broadening the local sport spectrum when they launch the Eletra Sports Expo 2014 at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eveleary, June 27-29 next. Consequently, organizers have also planned similar activities for Blairmont (West Berbice), 63 Village (Corentyne Berbice), Bartica, Anna Regina (Essequibo) and Mackenzie (Linden), during the month of July.
Under the theme, ‘Evolution of Sports-Building the Future of Sports in Guyana,” activities are scheduled to get underway Friday June 27 with a launching programme followed by a day of interaction with students where several games will be played. Also on that day, in the afternoon, the organizers will host a fundraising dinner after which sports personalities will speak on the development of sports in Guyana.
On Saturday June 28, the organizers will be hosting a forum whereby club members and officials will get a chance to interact with sports personalities. These sessions will be conducted between 10:00-12:00hrs and are open to the general public. Consequently, there will be a question and answer period to clarify pressing issues. Activities will culminate on Sunday with a presentation ceremony where sports personalities will receive plaques coupled with give-aways by several corporate entities.
Meanwhile, the forum will further showcase a number of businesses that provide services and sports gears and equipment. These business entities will also engage in inter-personal interaction among their publics. The organizers also hope to foster a better relationship between business entities and other stakeholders in both direct and indirect marketing of their products and services.
Other activities include outdoor and indoor games the likes of cricket, football, basketball, table tennis, chess, martial arts and athletics. There will also be fitness and nutrition displays, sport broadcasting media companies and journals/magazines/newsletters showcasing and publicity and motor vehicle sports display among others.
The objectives of the exercise are to activate, develop, maintain and in some cases resuscitate play grounds across Guyana and to network with other sport groups, while opening avenues for sports opportunities to a wide cross section of Guyana. The forum will also serve as the annual fund-raiser for Eletra Sports Club.
Entrance fee for adults is $500, while students in uniform pay $200. There will be food bars, beverages and games for children along with other side attractions.
