What started off as a fishing excursion with a few friends yesterday turned sour for an 11-year-old boy from
Linden who was brutally attacked by two dogs.
Dequan Gordon, a student of the Christianburg Primary School, is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) nursing wounds to his throat and buttocks following the Doberman attack.
Reports are that the dogs which belonged to someone known as “Donkey” had escaped from the yard they were in by jumping the fence, and were roaming the streets before they attacked the boy.
According to Gordon’s mother, Sabrina, the young boy was out fishing with some friends when the dogs attacked him around 10:00 hours.
Two public spirited citizens responded to the screams of the young boy and managed to save him. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he received treatment. He was later transferred to GPHC.
“When I come here and see my son, I start crying. Is only Monday I bury one of my children and now this one get attacked,” the mother of five said.
“He can’t talk too properly. You can barely hear what he is trying to say. He has been in and out of consciousness for a while,” Sabrina disclosed.
She told Kaieteur News that the dogs’ owner has not made contact with them at the hospital or offered any regrets over the situation. Sabrina said that it was the boy’s rescuers who reported the matter to the police.
The mother said that the owner has indicated to the police that they want to offer compensation but she will not be accepting that. “I want justice for my son.”
Last evening, Dequan was taken to the theatre for surgery.
