Two brothers, who were severely stung by Africanised bees while clearing shrubs with the intent of constructing a chicken pen, at Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, are lucky to be alive today.
The brothers, Adam and Lawrence Lall, said that over the weekend they were clearing a section of shrubs at when a hive of Africanised bees suddenly swarmed on them, apparently after being disturbed by their actions.
The bee hive was located in a coconut tree next door to where the brothers were clearing the shrubs. Adam, who was stung four times, said that upon noticing a large swarm of bees attacking, he dropped his cutlass and ran past a nearby house.
He said that he then turned back and jumped into the veranda and made his way into the house.
His brother, Lawrence, who sustained 25 stings about his body, said that he ran into the house and proceeded to close all of the windows.
The brothers said they monitored the bees from their shelter and later proceeded to burn the coconut tree in which the bee hive was discovered.
The Lall brothers were treated at the Suddie Public Hospital and sent away.
