Local chess players have been somewhat inactive recently but are scheduled to resume duties
when the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) stages a one day rapid chess tournament at the Friendship Village, East Bank Demerara office of the sponsor, Engineering & Construction Inc, Sunday June 7.
Local Senior Chess Champion, Wendell Meusa is expected to resume the keen rivalry with his predecessor, Taffin Khan, while other players will nurture similar ambitions of carting off the spoils. Players to watch are veteran, Errol Tiwari, junior chess king, Haifeng Su, his predecessor, Anthony Drayton, Rashad Hussain Ron Motilall and Cecil Cox among others.
The tournament will consist of seven rounds played under the Swiss System and, with a time control of 20 minutes per player. The registration process will start at 9:30 hours, with the first pawn being moved at 10:30hrs. The registration fee is $500 and the sponsors will be providing transportation for all interested players. Those desirous of taking advantage of this service are asked to assemble at the Linden Car Park at 09:00hrs for a prompt departure.
