Dear Sports Editor,
We have seen the Berbice Board continuously acting as a law onto themselves and their parent bodies, the Guyana Cricket Board and the WICB seem to not care or are totally powerless to deal condignly with this Board.
It is general knowledge now that the Berbice Board has some serious issues with the GCB and has decided not to attend meetings of that Board but still prepares teams for the different levels of cricket administered by the GCB, albeit, reluctantly. BCB has realized that they cannot use the cricketers as their pawns in any fight that they want to pursue with the rightful cricket authority in Guyana, GCB. They have challenged their parent Board in court several times and have their cases thrown out and the GCB just allows them to have their way without any sanctions. They now have another injunction against the GCB which was halted by the courts.
Why doesn’t the GCB sanction this Berbice Board for all the atrocities that they have committed ever since 2011? Why does the GCB sit idly by and allow its member to continue flexing its muscle against it in a most insubordinate manner?
Just recently, we witnessed the BCB hosting a cricket tournament involving players from around the country in full violation of the rules and regulations of the GCB and the WICB. Public announcements were made by both parents about the unauthorized and unapproved nature of the tournament but the BCB still went ahead with their plans and tournament is full violation of the rules of these entities.
I am waiting with bated breath to see what will be the outcome of this scandalous situation. It is as if the GCB and the WICB are toothless poodles and incapable of dealing with this elephant in the room.
What the BCB has in effect said here is that they do not have to subscribe or honour any rules of any organization whatsoever that they do not agree with once they are in bed with the right politicians and they are the duly elected administrators for cricket in Guyana, not Berbice alone. Obviously, they are a law unto their own selves! The next thing we may see is that the BCB may apply for direct membership with the WICB or better yet the ICC as they are not too respectful of the WICB either.
The Executive Committee of BCB should be sued for the loss of revenue to the many hotels and service providers that have suffered over the years because of the turmoil BCB created in our cricket. Mr. Anil Beharry and company should pay the Guyanese people.
The GCB should learn from Christopher Matthias, GFF and FIFA, ban the delinquent officials and Associations.
Yours in Sports,
Ardent Cricket Fan,
Eon Washington.
