Chunnelal Sannasi’s 7 for 29 put D’Edward the semifinals
A destructive spell of medium fast bowling from Chunnelal Sannasi enabled D’Edward to advance to the semifinal of the
2014 Hand in Hand Insurance Company Second Division 40-Over Knockout Cricket Competition for teams in West Berbice, knocking out Golden Elprabell in their second round clash.
In the match which was played at the Paradise Ground, Golden Elprabell took first strike and immediately ran into trouble losing their first three wickets to the nippy Sannasi to be 3 for 3. Troy Miller and Delroy Wilson then added 12 runs for the fourth wicket before Sannasi struck again removing Wilson for 6 and Murphy Ward for 0 to leave them tottering at 15 for 5. Miller tried hard to hold the innings together but got no support from the other end as Sannasi picked up two more wickets. Former Berbice under-19 leg spinner Kevon Jawahir supported with two wickets as Golden Elprabell folded for a paltry 72 in 19.2 overs. Miller made a fighting 23.
When D’Edward responded, they got a good start in the circumstances with Lakeraj Sookra and Jawahir putting on 23 runs. They lost Jawahir for 12 and Devendra Lalsa for 0 in quick succession to slip to 25 for 2. The destroyer was former Berbice Senior Inter County pacer, Nigel ‘Train’ Wilson. Another former Berbice player, allrounder Eon Abel joined Sookra and put on 14 for the 3rd wicket.
Pacer Glenroy Fraser then got into the act with 3 quick wickets – Sookra for 19, Abel for 9 and Davendra Singh for no score to place D’Edward in a shaky position of 48 for 5. However, the captain Jaipaul Heeralall with 13 not out with support from Hoolsarran Lalsa (8) and Navendra Rampersaud (4 not out) saw their team home by 4 wickets. Bowling for golden Elprabell, Fraser took 3 for 20 from 6 overs and Wilson 2 for 19.
