St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) -A Stoney Grove man has been formally charged with the attempted murder of his father.
Police with Nevis’ Violent Crime Unit have laid charges against twenty- four -year old Kunkarran Chatram, for the May 28th shooting of his father Shawn “Fisherman” Chatram also of Stoney Grove.
Reports indicate that Kunkarran Chatram shot his father in the mouth and chest.
SKN Vibes Media has reported that Shawn Chatram, a Guyanese national, was flown out of Nevis to Barbados on Saturday via air ambulance, where he was to undergo surgery and other treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Chatram and his son are both fishermen. The media house reports that Mr. Chatram drove himself to the hospital and that his son was arrested there when he apparently went to check on his father.
A police press release issued Wednesday night says that the matter is one of serious concern to Commissioner C G Walwyn, other members of the Force, and all law abiding and civic-minded persons in the community. Commissioner C G Walwyn is encouraging both juvenile and adult children living with their parents to respect the authority of their parents, and he encouraged parents to be good role models for their children.
The Chatram family has been dogged by tragedy in recent years. In 2009 Kunkarran Chatram’s mother Shakiela Chatram committed suicide by hanging herself from the rafters of their veranda at their home in Stoney Grove, sending shock waves through the community.
