Dear Editor,
What has becoming of our justice system? Where are the rights for mothers? I am a new mother who throughout my pregnancy, was thrown aside and constantly tormented and verbally abused by the father of my child.
This abuse also sent me to the hospital by triggering preterm labour. Thankfully, with great care and bed rest, my son was born healthy on his due date. When I got pregnant the father said “It’s a speck of blood and to get rid of it”. I was also given a choice between my unborn child and my relationship.
For nine months I was neglected and constantly abused, not to mention the irreparable damage done to my character by him and his mother. Forgetting all this mistreatment after my son was born, my family and I welcomed them into our home and our lives. However this was not suited to their needs. They wanted publicity and recognition. That was the man who denied his child at all forum when he was in the womb.
After two months of continued insults and derogatory comments to and about myself and my family and even worse, the mistreatment of my son. My baby’s father made him sit up to take pictures to post on social media, flashing of his camera in my child’s eyes when my child was not even one month old.
Knowing that this was wrong he told my mother not to tell me.
My son’s grandmother through lack of knowledge of babies and not knowing how to take care of a child, (her son was raised by her mother and sisters) made his navel bleed terribly while using the napkin pin. The threats from my son’s father also reached the point where he said that he could get rid of me and my family. There were other unsavory things.
After all this I revoked the permission for him to come at my home fearing for the wellbeing of my family and even more so, for my son. After this my son’s father seeking publicity and trying to meet society’s social criteria, filed a summons for “reasonable visitation”. However two days before I received this summons and not wanting to deprive my son of his father I called him and told he can come one day at a specified time to see his son (stopping the erratic visits from before: coming at any hour without notice, coming with a hangover, etc). When I received the summons he stated that I was being malicious in offering him to come and see his son at a specified time. He also continued with his lies as was contained in his affidavit. Now I am here writing this letter to ask the relevant authorities to help me as I am being ordered by the judge to let my four-month old son go to his father’s house in the company of our maid with a taxi as he(the father) has clearly stated that no family member is welcome at his home. Now tell me as a working mother where will I find $3000 every week for taxi fare? And in these four months the father never gave a cent towards his son’s wellbeing! He has not even signed acknowledging his paternity on my son’s birth certificate.
I fear for the safety of my son as his father has stated if he cannot have him no one and can. He boasted that he can getaway at anytime with him, leaving me to be tortured forever. Why do I have to feel this burden and emotional stress? Why does my innocent son have to be subjected to this torture? Who would be responsible is he absconds with my son?
What happens if he causes my son physical harm or if the countless characters he has at his premises harms my son? When will this emotional abuse and torment end? When will I be able to live in peace without constant death threats? Why does a four-month-old baby have to go back and forth? Please relevant authorities help me get some justice.
