The Seeraj Bhimsain organized seven-a-side, nine-team Independence softball cricket competition, played on Sunday at the Lusignan Community Centre ground was won by Shameer’s 7 who beat Jangotown ‘A’ in the Final of the Major League and Jangotown who got past Country by nine wickets in the 12-team Minor League Final.
In the Major League Final, Shameer 7 batted first and made 72-2 with Fazal Rafeek hitting 37. In reply Jangotown ‘A’, who drew a bye into the Finals, were bowled out for 38, with Fazal Rafeek taking 3-7. The winner received a trophy donated by Pristine Waters and $40,000 sponsored by J’Jams car rental.
The runner-up trophy was donated by R&S Seafood, while the Man of the Final, Rafeek, received a trophy sponsored by PY taxi service.
In the Minor League final, Country Boys batted first and made 54-5 with Dave Mohamed hitting 32. In reply Jangotown made 55-1 in 2’”3 overs with Sarjoo Persaud hitting three sixes in 28. The man of the final award was sponsored by PY taxi service, while the winner received trophy donated by Pristine Waters and $20,000 sponsored by J’Jams car rental. The runner-up received a trophy from Two Sisters Car Rental. Twelve teams participated in the Minor League.
In the Minor League semi-final, Country Boys beat Young Guns who batted first and made 53 all out in 5 overs with Ghamshan Ramaday hitting 20. Bowling for Country Boys, Sachin Ramcharran took 2-10. In reply Country Boys made 57-1 in 3.3 overs with Sachin Ramcharran hitting an unbeaten 31.
In the Major League Semi-final, Shameer 7 batted first and made 63-2 in their 5 overs with Martin Duchin hitting 36. In reply Country Boys ‘A’ made 54- 4 with Kevin Franklin scoring 24.
