Republic Bank U-17 Inter Zone 50 overs…New Amsterdam/Canje advance to final having lost less wickets in tied semi
New Amsterdam/Canje cantered into the final of the Republic Bank Under-17 Inter Zone 50 overs cricket competition in Berbice having been declared winners of their tied semi-final against Upper Corentyne by virtue of losing less wickets.

Playing at the No.69 Vikings ground the game was reduced to 40 overs a side due to the late arrival of the New Amsterdam/Canje team. New Amsterdam/Canje chose to take first strike and soon lost opener Alex Algoo and No.3 batsman Steve Deonarine to pacers Akram Khan and Davenand Chatterpaul respectively for 6 runs each at 22-2.
The other opener, Kevin Sinclair then put on 20 for the third wicket with Joel Sietaram who made 12 before falling followed by John Sukhu (0) with the score at 42-4.
Sinclair continued to hold the innings together, putting on 63 for the 5th wicket with Felon Crandon (15). He added 17 more with Kyle Michael (1) and was eventually caught off Kameshwar Chatterpaul for a well played 65 (6×4) at 125-7.
Jaleel Gaffor (15*) and Dion Sinclair (15) put on a valuable 30 runs for the 9th wicket that helped New Amsterdam/Canje to 161-9 in their 40 overs. Bowling for Upper Corentyne Davanand Chatterpaul took 3-15 from 8 overs, Kameshwar Chatterpaul 3-24 from 8 overs and Totaram Rajaram 2-15 from 3 overs.
When Upper Corentyne began their response, they lost Rabindranauth Roopchand to pacer Raymond van Kenic for a duck in the first over to be 3-1. Dineshwar Boudhoo and Abdur Agib did well to put on 31 for the 2nd wicket before pacer Chavez Thomas had Boudhoo removed for 14.
Left arm spinner Jaleel Jaffar snapped up two wickets and Agib was caught off left arm spinner Sietaram for 25, leaving Upper Corentyne shakily placed at 58-5 in the 19th over.
All rounder Nickolas Seenarine held the innings together by putting on 34 for the 6th wicket with Gavin Chatterpaul (13), 19 for the 7th with Akhram Khan (1) and 22 for the next wicket with Torend Shivambar (10).
The score came down to 147-9 with 15 runs needed to win from the final four overs. Seenarine and No.11 Kameshwar Chatterpaul took 7 off the bowling of Sietaram but could only get one in each of the next two overs bowled by Dion Sinclair and Chavez Thomas, leaving 6 to win off the last over by Sinclair.

Five runs were scored off the first five balls leaving 1 run to get off the last ball to win however Sinclair knocked over the stumps of Chatterpaul for 2 to tie the match and see his team through with the valiant Seenarine still there at the end on 61.
Bowling for New Amsterdam/Canje, Dion Sinclair took 2-21 from 7 overs, Jaleel Jaffar 2-30 from 8 overs and Joel Sietaran 2-34 from 8.
