A second form student of the Mackenzie High school was on Tuesday rushed to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex after efforts to awaken her proved futile.
The family had taken a trip to Georgetown over the Independence holiday weekend and returned on Monday evening so that the children could attend school on Tuesday.
The student reportedly retired to bed that night but never woke up the following day.
She was subsequently taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where she was pronounced dead.
The 14-year-old student known as Yeng (only name given) was a Chinese National, who resided with her family at their place of business- a popular Chinese restaurant on Co-op Crescent, next door to the popular Church’s Chicken outlet, at Mackenzie, Linden.
All the Chinese restaurants on the Mackenzie shore, remained shut tight yesterday, so efforts to contact relatives for a comment, proved futile.
Information reaching this newspaper has suggested that the student, who has a twin sister, was a victim of bullying at her school.
“Some children used to be telling her Chinee, you don’t belong here, go back to your country”, sources claimed.
Both sisters were reportedly subjected to the derisive comments.
Over the past decade or so, at least two children from this premier Linden Secondary School, have committed suicide.
