Following on from a successful Novice, Junior and Sub-Junior championships last month, powerlifters will once again assemble next month for the Claude Charles Memorial Intermediate and Masters Championships set for the YMCA,
Thomas Lands on June 22nd.
According to a press release from the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF), June 22, the day the YMCA will explode with strongmen and women trying to outdo each other, will also see the federation hosting a fund raising bar-b-que at the same venue and tickets will cost $1200.
Long time corporate supporter Fitness Express has once again thrown its weight behind the sport as the main sponsor for this event. CEO/Manager Jamie Mc Donald handed over his entity’s contribution to GAPF Executive Member Erwyn Smith at his 47 John and Sheriff Street, Campbellville headquarters.
Mc Donald noted that Fitness Express was very pleased to be supportive of the sport once again and is looking forward to another exciting competition among the leading athletes in Guyana.
Lifting time on June 22 is 10:00hrs. Some of the athletes expected to be staking a claim for top individual category honours and overall glory include Novices Overall male and female champions, Roger Callendar and Andrea Smith.
Also in contention will be bodybuilder, Orlando Dublin who competed at the 2013 novices competition; Steve Ramnarine of Hard Core Gym in Berbice; Ahmad Rozan of Elite Fitness;
Telisha Roland of Kingsrow Barbell Club and Chloe Hunter of Buddies Gym are all serious contenders for the female Best Lifter title.
Meanwhile, athletes are being urged to register early since there will be no consideration for late registration. The deadline for registration is June 13. Forms can be uplifted at Basic Beauty on North Road or any GAPG Executive Member.
Patrons will be asked to pay an entrance fee of $500 for the competition.
