basketball players at a presentation Ceremony held at Duke Lodge in Kingston.
Hinds thanked Karl Moore and his Company Southern System Lean Green Technology Solutions, Pinnacle Audio Visual, Restoration Brothers Contractors LLC, CRP Plumbing & Heating Inc, EGGI’s Express Shipping and the US based Guyanese players including Rundell Ramsey and Joel Simon for their generous contribution to the local basketball fraternity.
The GABF Head disclosed that the clocks will be presented to the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) and Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) while the boots, which are for both males and females, will be distributed to players who are in need.
According to Hinds, a former National player, the clocks, which is mainly for Outdoor Courts but which can also be used indoors, will also be used as a ‘back-up’ to the clocks at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) and if needed at the school level tournaments like the YBG National Championships.
“When I was playing we never had outdoor clocks. I remember last March at the National Club Championships at the Sports Hall the Shot Clock stopped working causing some amount of confusion. These clocks will ensure that does not happen again.
The Shot Clocks were introduced in the early 1990s in the NBA to prevent players killing time,” Hinds explained.
He disclosed that acquiring this modern electronic equipment has been the hope of GABBF for over two decades and said that clocks could also be used by the Linden Sub Association and other promoters of outdoor Basketball locally.
“Recently I attended a tournament in Berbice and they were keeping the score on a chalkboard. This state of the art equipment will certainly bring up to par with what’s required at this level,” Hinds pointed out.
Present last evening was Stefi Moore, who presented the clocks on behalf of her father. Also at the head table were Junior Andrew Hercules and Ivor Thompson who represented the overseas sponsors. (Sean Devers)
