Several police and prison sources are now claiming that the lifeless body of man which was found in Eccles Saturday night might be that of former murder accused Rawle Newton, 27, called “Satan ambassador”.
However, up to press time, relatives were yet to come forward to positively identify the man. Kaieteur News was reliably informed that three women had turned up at the Lyken Funeral Home yesterday claiming that they knew the identity of the man.
However, before being allowed to see the body they were told to go to the Brickdam Police Station for a rank to accompany them.
Police sources said that the women never came to the station, nor did they return to the funeral parlour.
Police sources have said that one investigator, who was on the hunt for the wanted man, said that he is “sure the man found in Eccles is the wanted man, because Rawle Newton had the words ‘Satan Ambassador’ tattooed on one of his arms and this dead man found in Eccles has the same tattoo in the same place”.
Kaieteur News was told that the body bore several large tattoos on arms, chest and back.
Earlier in the year the Guyana Police Force had issued a wanted bulletin for Newton for robbery under arms committed on a resident of La Parfaite Harmonie.
Newton was released from prison on a murder charge just hree weeks prior to that robbery. Newton’s murder case had collapsed after several witnesses failed to appear before the Magistrate at Bartica.
He was charged in 2010 for the murder of Bartica businessmen, Jainarine Raghubar and Ramdeo Deonarine.
The bodies of the two men were found tied up in a Bartica home. Millions of dollars and a large quantity of gold were stolen. Newton and another man were nabbed and charged in connection with the murder after they went on a car shopping spree just after the murders. They also offered monetary gifts to a number of policemen who were investigating the double murder.
Newton, former Tactical Service Rank, Constable Marlon Letlow, 25, of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, and former Immigration Officer, Linden Scotland, were jointly charged with the murders.
Back in 2012, police at Paramakatoi, North Pakaraimas found the burnt bodies of Letlow and police constable Leedon Aaron.
Letlow and Aaron had left their location, the Kato Police Station, on an all terrain vehicle for a routine patrol but never returned.
According to reports, the bodies were discovered hours after their ATV was spotted with its headlamps on in Paramakatoi, North Pakaraimas.
Residents in the area on Sunday denied hearing any gunshots; several other neighbours said they saw a heavily tinted car speeding away from the scene where the body was found.
On Saturday evening, staff from a security service found the body of a man dressed in denim coat and pants lying face down on the access road behind the Eccles Industrial Site.
Police on the scene had initially believed that it was a hit and run accident because of bruises to his hands and blood in his face.
Emergency workers who arrived with the ambulance found what appeared to be a bullet wound to his chest. At the time, persons in the area reported hearing several gunshots but could not say from whence they came.
