Drunken schoolgirls caught bus riding

An East Coast Demerara bus driver and his conductor are in hot water after they were nabbed by the police last Thursday transporting four intoxicated schoolgirls while classes were in session.
The men were detained for three days and were only released on bail yesterday after investigators found that they had taken the schoolgirls on a drinking spree.
Kaieteur News understands that although the girls who attend a prominent secondary school on the East Coast of Demerara are described as regular bus riders, nothing was done by their parents or the school’s administration.
A reliable police source told this newspaper that the girls who are in third and fourth forms used the opportunity on Thursday when most of their teachers were away on a school tour to link up with the bus driver and his conductor for their usual bus ride.
They were reportedly taken to a secluded location in the neighbouring Courbane Park where they imbibed alcoholic beverages.
It is not yet clear if any other activity had taken place.
But according to the police, ranks on one of its mobile patrols received word that some schoolgirls in uniform were spotted imbibing with some grown men, and swooped down in the Courbane Park area.  By then the mini bus driver and his conductor somehow got word that the police were informed and tried to flee the area before the ranks arrived.
They were however intercepted by the police patrol with the obviously intoxicated schoolgirls in their vehicle.
“Dem girls smell full ah beer and dey couldn’t even talk properly,” a police source told this newspaper.
The driver and the conductor were taken into custody while the school was contacted and the girls were subsequently handed over to the administrators.
“This thing is annoying. The conductors and drivers are taking advantage of these girls who also have themselves to blame,” a concerned parent of a student of the school the girls attend told Kaieteur News.
This newspaper understands that the conductor in question was previously fingered in a similar incident which led to rape allegations.
