Newcomers Parfait Harmonie created the first upset of this year’s Ansa McAl- sponsored Mackeson ‘Keep Your Five Alive’ Futsal Competition when they defeated host California Square 3-2 on penalty kicks after regulation time failed to produce a goal from either team as play opened on Saturday evening at California Square in East Ruimveldt.
Playing in the fourth game of six scheduled matches, the host just could not breach the strong defence of the visitors and were made to pay the price for this failure as they succumbed in the penalty shootout to make a humiliating exit from the tournament.
In the first game of the night, the Kamal siblings (Sheik and Joshua) were in ripping form as they guided Sophia to a comfortable 3-0 win over Beterverwagting.
The game that followed saw Albouystown ‘B’ survive 4-3 in sudden death penalty shootout against a stubborn Turkeyen unit after regulation period could not separate a nil-all deadlock.
In the third game, Broad Street came from behind to level the scores in regulation, before going on to register a 3-1 win in the penalty shootout.
The penultimate encounter saw Back Circle cruise to an easy 2-0 triumph over Alberttown with tested veterans Andy Duke and Daniel Favourite, being the players on target.
The final matchup that featured Tiger Bay ‘A’ and Charlestown ended with the former securing a narrow 2-1 win with Rensford Coleridge slamming in a brace for the winners, while Dexter Marshall netted the consolation goal for the losers.
The competition was set to continue last evening at the same venue.
Apart from Ansa McAl and DeSinco Trading, some of the other sponsors of the tournament which has six playing days, are Colors Boutique, Clairan’s Boutique, Clear Water, Star Party Rental, White Castle Fish Shop, and HJTV and its 94.1 Boom FM.
Thirty-two teams started the tournament which has over $500,000 in prize monies up for grabs.
