Mohamed, Benn slam centuries
Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) grabbed first innings points from Sophia when the Georgetown Cricket
Association (GCA)/Noble House Sea Foods second division 2-day tournament continued yesterday.
At University of Guyana ground, Sophia were bowled out for 98 in 29.4 overs after they were inserted by GCC with Dwight Peters scoring 18. Deonarine Seegobin claimed 4-18, Ronaldo Mohamed 2-12 and Devon Lord 2-21. In reply GCC were 205-3 off 39 overs at stumps. Mohamed stroked an unbeaten 100 which contained seven fours and four sixes, while Seegobin is not out on 61 (5×4,1×6).
At Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), the host were 78-2 in 17.2 overs when play ended just before the scheduled close due to rain with Khadir Manjoor not out on nine and Imtiaz Pooran on two. Chabiraj Ramcharran had earlier retired hurt on 46 (10×4). Troy Benn and Rawl Haynes have so far taken one wicket each.
Earlier, Police batted after winning the toss and declared on 300-9 after 38 overs. Benn slammed 164, while Daniel Barker supported with 50. The pair came together after Stephon Blacks (05) was bowled by medium pacer Richard Latiff with the score on 13 and added 196 for the second wicket. They capitalized on some sloppy fielding by MYO and Benn, who could have been caught in the first over at short cover off Latiff and was dropped at the wicket just after reaching his century, belted twenty seven fours and four sixes before he was bowled by Robindra Persaud. Barker, who cracked six fours in his innings, was eventually caught and bowled by Shafeek Ishmael. Richard Leacock assisted with 24 (4×6,1×6) and Dwayne Mc Pherson 21(3×4). Ramcharran captured 3-40 including a hat trick; Parmanand Parsram snared 2-29, Ishmael 2-76 while Latiff and Rovindra Persaud had one each.
