Competed in 14 events at GASA National LC Swimming C/ships
Rising local swim sensation, Amy Grant is continuing to show that great days are ahead for herself and the Land of Many Waters.
Grant, the Girls 12 and Under Schools National champion at 50 meters backstroke for 2012 and the Girls 14 and Under 2013 Schools National champion in the 50 meters freestyle and backstroke, again showed her prowess at the just concluded Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) Long Course Championships, May 17 – 20, 2014 at the National Aquatic Center, Lilliendaal.
Young Amy Grant has been out of the pool for two months with an ear infection and only started back swimming three weeks ago to get fit for the GASA Championships. Grant entered a mind bugling 14 events over a period of four days which made some asked the question, “Can she do it”… Can a 12 year-old swimmer who has been out sick for 2 months be fit enough in 3 weeks to swim the 50m fly, free, back, breast, 100m back, free, fly, 200m free, fly, back, IM as well as the 400m, 800m, and 1500m free.
She also asked for three Time Keepers which meant that she would have been attempting to break or set records in the events she was entered. As it turned out, Grant set a new record in the Girls 11-12 100m Butterfly (1.32.50) and also established a new mark in the Girls 11-12 200m Backstroke of 3.39.12.
In the Girls 11-12 1500m Freestyle, Grant clocked 27 minutes 58 seconds the fastest recorded time by any 11-12 girl in the Long Course Meet. She achieved her personal best in the Girls 11-12 50m Freestyle just missing the record by 300th of a second.
The 12 year-old Grant did not compete in two of the events she had initially entered; Girls 11-12 50m Breaststroke and Girls 11-12 200m Butterfly. She won all 12 events she swam.
