The St Lucian Boxing Association, through their President David ‘Shakes’ Christopher, has confirmed the participation of three boxers, one female and two males, in the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) ‘Nuff cuff injection’ amateur boxing card fixed for the Buxton Friendship Community Centre ground on May 31.
The St Lucia trio is: Arthur Langeleire, Malinda St Clair and Ron Bastiean and they will be accompanied by Trainer Conrad Hunte. They are due here on Friday and will add an international flair to the card.
With all systems in place, boxing fans on the East Coast and those trekking from Georgetown will be in for a treat with exciting bouts promised. Fans will be keen to see their home fighters do well against the visitors and GBA President Steve Ninvalle is encouraging all to come out in support.
He told Kaieteur Sport that the local fighters are in preparation and are expected to put on a good show. Ninvalle disclosed that several sponsors have come on board and during this week a full disclosure of those lending valuable support will be made via a Media Briefing. He expressed thanks for those who have come forward and others that have offered assistance to the success of the card.
Two of the St Lucians have been here before in Arthur Langeleire and Ron Bastiean, while the lone lady, Malinda St Clair, is making her first trip here. They all will be keen for a good showing and their local opponents can expect fierce opposition. Langeleire is preparing for the Commonwealth Games and Christopher intends for him to have as much action as possible in the lead up to the games.
This event follows on the heels of a very successful programme in East Ruimveldt with the next stop after Buxton being Golden Grove on the East Coast. Another programme supported by the GBA was held last evening in Mahdia adding impetus to the thrust of the association to take the sport to the communities.
