Four outstanding educators were on Sunday last honoured for a combined 150 years of committed service to the Education sector. They were recognized by the eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports under the second annual Berbice River Bridge Tribute to Retired Teachers Programme at the St. Francis Xavier Training Centre.

Those honoured were Deserean Benjamin, Zalimoon Khan, Eulis Tasher and Dresma Moore. They each received a medal, plaque and a special gift for their outstanding contribution towards the development of education in the Ancient County.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster speaking on behalf of the club stated that over the years they have always placed special emphasis on the promotion of education and as such the club has honoured numerous outstanding teachers.
This year the four awardees were selected by both the RHTY&SC and the Berbice Teachers Union based on years of service, discipline, attitude, classroom performance and relationship with students/peers.
He applauded the awardees as heroes of Guyana’s educational sector who have touched and changed the lives of thousands of youths, many going on to become doctors, lawyers and educators among other professions.
President of the Guyana Teachers Union Mark Lyte expressed gratitude to both the club and sponsors for taking the opportunity to recognize and honour the heroes. Lyte challenged the current generation of teachers to learn from the experience of the awardees and to be proud representatives of the teaching profession.
Junior Minister in the Ministry of Finance Bishop Juan Edghill expressed gratitude to the four awardees for their remarkable contribution to the development of Guyana through the education of youths, noting that the Government is investing heavily in the educational field. Edghill urged the awardees to continue to share their knowledge in the future.
Captain of the club’s female team, Shemaine Campbelle expressed gratitude to Mr. O.D Samaroo, CEO of the Berbice Bridge Company for his sponsorship of the programme and stated that the cricketers were pleased to honour heroes of excellence, something they would continue to do in the future.
The teams that organised the tribute to retired teachers programme were the RHT Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Gizmos and Gadgets Under-21 and First Division and Metro Female teams.
