The quest for top honours and bragging rights in the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) begins as the best league teams will get cracking from tomorrow when rivalry in the Stag Beer sponsored division-one league kicks off.
At the Buxton Ground, the home team will get proceedings underway when they come up against Mahaica Determinators, while Victoria Kings tackle Ann’s Grove.
Play will continue on Monday May 26 at the Beterverwagting Community Centre Ground with another double header.
The winning team will be rewarded with $200,000 with the runners-up collecting $150,000.
third and fourth placed teams will earn $100,000 and $75,000 respectively while each participating team will receive an appearance fee of $14,000 to assist with costs.
Meanwhile, the association officially kicked off their season on Sunday last at the Buxton Community Centre Ground with a colourful march past which attracted seven of the eight competing teams.
Mahaica Determinators, Ann’s Grove, Victoria Kings, Golden Stars, Buxton Stars, Haslington Sparta, and BV Triumph United attended.
In the two exhibition matches that were played, the EDFA Under-23 team narrowly lost to the West Demerara based Slingerz Football Club 1-0, while the EDFA Under-17 side defeated their Upper Demerara counterparts 2-1.
Region Four Chairman Mr. Clement Corlette delivered feature remarks while performing the traditional kick off to officially start the season.
