As the action in the Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football Academy continues, several teams continued their good showing after decisive victories over their respective opponents.
Over in Linden, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) and Wisburg Secondary School (WSS) kept the flag flying for their region with decisive victories in the boys and girls categories at the Wisburg Secondary School Ground, Saturday May 17 last.
In Georgetown, at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, Christ Church Secondary males registered an upset victory over defending champions, Charlestown Secondary 3-2 in an exciting affair while over at the Esplanade Ground, New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary lost to Vryman’s Ervyn Secondary School 3-0 in a male game.
Wisburg Secondary girls overcame Mackenzie High School 1- nil off the boot of Kay Holder in the 38th minute while Leon Grenville (39) and Lorenzo Miller (57) ensured victory for MHS. Charlestown opened the scoring with a Jamal Mingo strike in the 17th minute but Wainwright Adonis equalized in the 25th minute for Christ Church to send the teams in at the half on a 1-1 stalemate.
Shamar Carrington then made it 2 – 1 for Christ Church with a 32nd minute strike and though Charlestown tried gallantly for the equalizer the score line remained the same following near misses. Troy Williams then cemented the victory for Charlestown with a 55th min strike.
The action at the Ministry of Education Ground Saturday May 17 last saw Christ Church Secondary males upset defending champions, Charlestown Secondary 3-2. Last year’s MVP, Omari James, pulled one back for Charlestown in the 60th minute but his effort was rendered as the whistle sounded shortly afterwards.
In the other two scheduled games, Lodge Secondary and Queen’s College were gifted walk over victories from Tutorial High and Tucville Secondary respectively.
Meanwhile, Linden Coordinator Rollin Tappin thanked all the sponsors, the parents and the participating Schools on behalf of the GSDF for their support. He also noted that the tournament was well-attended while the players were engaged in exciting affairs. Director of the Foundation, Victor Wright also expressed similar sentiments. Presentation of prizes will be done during the national playoffs scheduled for Georgetown.
Wisburg Secondary finished on 11 points while New Silver City amassed 10, Linden Foundation accumulated 9 points with Christianburg Wismar Sec and MHS both in the cellar on 7 points apiece.
