It has been almost a week since 15-year-old Ruel Paul Fredricks, formerly of Siriki Sands, in the Upper Pomeroon River, went missing. Despite collaborative interventions by members of the Guyana Defence Force, his family and the community, to locate him there is still no sign of the 15-year-old.
The only visible signs were traces of his footprints along the trail he ventured into. The cutlass he was carrying and his bicycle were not recovered.
The child’s mother, Shavon Fredricks, explained that on May 16, around 5:30 hours, the young Fredericks left his Siriki Sands home, almost a mile from where he lived with his parents and eight siblings and ventured into the backdam to take lunch for his father.
A worried Shavon Fredericks said, after her husband, Rodney Wong returned home without his missing son, she started to question the man, who at first thought his son was probably playing tricks.
Later that day, Shavon Fredericks decided to send her older son to search for Ruel but his searches revealed nothing.
Fredericks said that she sought the assistance of the soldiers who went into the area Sunday but that search, along with the searches of her immediate family and community turned up empty.
Shavon Fredericks, who is hopeful that her son would return to her safe, said that she and her church members are continuously praying for her son’s safe recovery.
His sudden disappearance has taken a toll on her entire family. She barely eats and sleeps.
Fredericks said that there is a prevalence of wild animals in that area but no animal traces were discovered.
She said that several years ago a mute girl and three boys went missing in that area but several days later those children returned safe.
