Dear Editor,
The Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA) wishes to express its profound appreciation to A Party for National Unity (APNU) and the PPP Government for combining their efforts on 17th May, 2014 to pass the Cricket Administration Bill 2012. This gesture shows that much could be achieved if the will is there.
We applaud the effort since the Bill paves the way for:
1. Free and fair elections.
2. Proper accountability.
3. Resolution of the ongoing cricket crisis and
4. More importantly, offers the opportunity for our youngsters to participate meaningfully in the promotion, and development of cricketers and cricket within our region and ultimately our country.
In recognizing the importance of this landmark legislation and what it means to our region which has been ostracized for too long, we once again thank both the Government and APNU for their obvious interests.
It is however extremely disappointing that the AFC abstained from the process, although they have always been very vocal on matters pertaining to accountability, legality, order, free and fair elections etc, all of which the cricket Administration Bill 2012 seeks to correct within our shambolic cricket arena. This Policy inconsistency of the AFC leaves one to wonder if there is any sincerity in their many articulations.
Bradley Fredericks
President UDCA
