Dear Editor,
Kindly permit me the opportunity to make some comments to a missive in your paper on the 16th May, 2014 titled “Some observations of football in Guyana”.
The arguments put forward by this individual with regards to the constitutionality of congress, suspension, interim and other related issues raised in his letter, have already been adumbrated on by numerous authors including myself and they were already addressed. The author’s regurgitated arguments, do not in any way bring a degree of newness or an ounce of originality to this once popular discourse. I refuse to fall victim to his sorrowful, lackluster excuse of an attempt to re-ignite discussion on this non issue for the sole purpose of his edification. Time does not permit, isn’t it regrettable?
Mr Editor, it is very interesting and amusing at the same time, that so many so-called authority and sage of the GFF constitution are now coming out of the shadows of woods and are awakened after twenty years from the abyss and unfathomable chasm of their ignorance, to give interpretations and make pronouncements on what they “assume” is politically correct.
Where were all these people with their supposedly infinite wisdom on the constitution during the tyrannical and dictatorship rule of the previous administration?
Are they now awakened from years of their restful abominable silence?
What makes them so presumptuous and arrogant in the same breath to believe their understanding of the governing literature of the GFF is biblically correct and all others are wrong?
It is nothing but amazing!
Mr Editor, the primary reason that catapulted my contribution to your pages was the paragraph of this missive mentioning my name.
Firstly, this individual posited how I relentlessly pursue a case for Matthias. Mr Editor, this author certainly does not know of what he speaks and definitely does not know of the individual who is the President of GFF. Mr Matthias besides being labeled by the author as a “smooth talking and slick individual” does not need anyone to fight his battles for him, for he is most eminently qualified, experienced, knowledgeable and is certainly capable of making his own representation. And that was amply demonstrated time over and over again, in and out of the courts, at general council and at congress.
What I humbly aspire to do is to bring some balance and objectivity to the discussions by providing facts, evidence and common sense. And as such, I do take this opportunity to restate and re-emphasize with the hope that this constant incorrect statement will cease to exist in the print media from the ink of all ill intended contributors, it was not Mr Matthias who suspended the executives of the UDFA, but rather the General Council of the GFF.
Secondly, I am very much interested to unearth what is intended by a particular reference of the author in his letter by referring to me as “that Lindener”? Is it to suggest that I’m unpatriotic to my constituency. Then if that is his desired aim, let me take this opportunity to eradicate his insinuations and belief, I am first and foremost a Lindener, I always have been and will always be. I however refuse to neglect and denounce my intellect, logical reasoning and plain common sense to give my time and loyalty to a cause that is baseless and has no merit, simply because of my geographical location. That is just pathetic.
It is certainly because of this unintelligent way of thinking that causes our country’s politics to be dictated. For if most of the electorates during General Elections were to vote on “issues” and not “race”, this “Eldorado” of ours would be the most desired center piece of the Region and I dare say the world.
Mr Editor, I find it rather devious, absurd and blatantly disrespectful for this individual to harbor such an incredulous notion and have the audacity to publicly suggest that I am not the author of my many letters to your publication. I believe he has miraculously mistaken me for one of the VP’s of the GFF who signs his name to letters he did not pen.
Kindly permit me Mr Editor to emphatically state that all letters in the public domain with my name signed to them, it is “I” who wrote them. I challenge this individual not to join the crowd with spurious and unsubstantiated claims, to provide from his very interesting imagination which letter I would have penned that embodies what he suggests as” erratic, confusing and congested.”
His request for my assistance to provide information as to whether the representatives from the UDFA were given a mandate to support Matthias, is nothing but ridiculous. If one is proposing that it is not so, then the burden of proof is on them to provide the evidence of their claim. Isn’t this a confused individual?
In concluding, this individual posited that Mr. Matthias is destabilizing football, I am confident many will disagree. Tell me what does firing an employee has to do with developing the game? Aren’t employees fired for varying reasons such as being inefficient, unproductive, failing to satisfy his/her job description et al?
It was no gossip or rumor about the FIFA US $1Million dollars (GY$200,000,000) it was uttered out of the mouth of the president to the various associations/public. No such accustomed secrecy of the federation’s finances and when the forensic audited finances of the GFF are made public, that US $1 million will be seen as unimpressive.
FIFA, CONCACAF and CFU are helping to rid the federation of individuals with devious plans and GOD is always in Charge.
Yours Faithfully,
Jermaine Figueira.
