The largest Computer and Office Supplies establishment in Berbice, Metro for the third time join hands with the BCB/BCC&DA to host Independence T20 Cup 2014 to be held on Sunday May 25, 2014 at the Albion Cricket Ground.
This edition promises to be the biggest ever. It is expected to be played under international quality floodlights for the first time. There will be two semi-finals with Berbice ‘A’ taking on Berbice ‘B’ from 11:00am followed three hours later by Georgetown Cricket Association vs East Coast Jaguars. The winners will battle in the finals from 7:00pm under lights for bragging rights, trophies and cash incentives.
Preceding the final will be a feature softball match between archrivals Memorex and Universal DVD.
As usual, proceeds from this event will go to several charitable organisations. The two cricket clubs identified for assistance this year are Blairmont Cricket Club and Upper Corentyne Cricket Association. Three orphanages, two schools and the host venue Albion Cricket Ground are also earmarked to gain from this year’s mega event. The recently opened shelter for homeless and abused kids at Babu John, Bal Nivas, will also be assisted as it prepares to serve the people of the county from July 2014.
The BCB and BCC&DA will share the balance equally to fulfill their respective mandates. This gala event will form part of the Region’s celebration for Independence and will surely boast local tourism in the County as many fans from Suriname are expected.
At a simple ceremony held recently at the New Amsterdam Branch of Metro, Mr Chetram Sookra, Marketing Representative handed over sponsorship cheque to Cosmatia Lindee, the tournament’s Secretary. He said that his company was very happy with what they saw for the first two years and readily renewed their sponsorship for 2014. He indicated that his company is happy to give back to Berbice. He added that Metro Computer and Office Supplies receives overwhelming support from Berbicians. Mr Sookra wished the tournament a success and was happy to learn that so many charitable organisations will benefit from this event. He said that the addition of the new shelter for abused and homeless kids at Babu John to the list of organisations to benefit is timely. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the tournament, Cosmatia Lindee, thanked Metro for their sterling contribution to the tournament and charity as a whole in Berbice and Guyana.
She thanked Metro for coming onboard once again and assured them that they will be satisfied with the mileage and the way the tournament will be conducted. Special mention was made of CEO Avia Lindie who always extends a helping hand and is a good friend of both BCB and BCC&DA.
Transparency and accountability have been the hallmark of the first two tournaments and this year will be no different.
Other sponsors onboard so far are: Courts Guyana Inc, Demerara Bank Limited, Hand In Hand Insurance Company, Raffik and Sons Construction, Bissoondyal Singh of Elizabeth Style, Sunshine Supermarket, Danzies Clothing and Auto Sale, Geddes Grant, Nand Persaud of Karibee Rice, A Ally and Sons, Ishmael Poultry, Sentinel Security, Universal DVD, New Building Society Ltd, Furniture World, Poonai Pharmacy, Sewnarine Zai Auto Paint, Balram Shane and Jayzee of the USA.
